Lund & Lund was founded in 1949 by Hans and Jesper Lund providing custom tailoring of the utmost quality at Sturegatan 10 in Stockholm. The present location at Sturegatan 12 opened in 1963 and has subsequently offered a selection of Ready-to-Wear and Made-to-Measure garments.
1920s-1930s
Hans and Jesper Lund’s father Arvid made women's dresses in his atelier at Sydbankshuset building, until 1928. It is now called Citypalatset at Norrmalmstorg in Stockholm.
Hans and Jesper Lund worked at different tailor shops until 1946, when Hans began his training in New York City while Jesper trained at Anderson & Sheppard in London to become a cutter.
1949
Hans and Jesper Lund came home and acquired AB Erikson & Wahlqvist men's tailor shop at Sturegatan 10. One of the first customers was Olof Wallenius of Wallenius Lines who suggested the name Lund & Lund.
The shop quickly grew to around 20 tailors and seamstresses, serving affluent customers, many of them residents of Lidingö island in the inner Stockholm archipelago.
1963
The 1950s was the birth of industrially produced clothing and the Lund brothers saw an opportunity to play a leading role. Discovering the ideal location at Sturegatan 12, they transformed it into a traditional British gentlemen's store.
The store opened for business in 1963, offering classic brands such as Burberry, Daks Simpson, Chester Barrie, Pantherella, Drumohr and Sunspel.
1970s-1980s
Third brother Percy Lund and nephew Gunnar Lund became partners in 1979 after Jesper Lund's departure. During this era brands like Gant and Hugo Boss were introduced.
In the 1980s, Lund & Lund shifted towards fashion brands, nearly resembling a Boss store with a range of clothing and accessories. A few British brands still remained such as Aquascutum and Chester Barrie.
1990s-2000s
In the 1990s, Lund & Lund began showcasing Italian brands like Zegna, Canali, Corneliani, and Belvest, providing complete outfits with ties and pocket squares.
In 2001, Marcus Klaar joined the company. At this time, club blazers and trousers in bold colours became popular and the company evolved rapidly and added prestigious brands like Brunello Cucinelli and Luigi Borrelli.
2010s-2020s
Gunnar Lund and Marcus Klaar expanded the selection with brands like Edward Dressler, Caruso, and Montecore. Reintroduction of Made-to-Measure at Lund & Lund in 2010 merged our unique tailoring heritage with the handicraft and latest technology developments.
In 2016, Måns Nelson joined the company with unique expertise and know-how, resulting in increased popularity for sartorial brands like Dalcuore, Liverano, Ambrosi, and Ring Jacket.
With the pandemic altering the workday routine permanently, Lund & Lund promptly embraced e-commerce to reach new customers worldwide, while retaining its loyal clientele in Stockholm.
2024 – 75th Anniversary
